Fire Rock
Conventional
The Fire Rock conventional firebox is our traditionally shaped fireplace. It is designed for installation using our masonry Solid Block chimney or any UL 103 approved prefabricated metal chimney. This UL 127 compliant product is cast from our proprietary refractory mix and comes in four sizes. Each size, 30", 36", 42", and 48" has an opening 32" tall and is cast to maintain it’s full width after being lined with split firebrick.

When coupled with our Solid Block chimney product the chimney is "zero" clearance. The firebox and chimney can support our bricking flange allowing the brick or stone on the chimney to match the home.
Modified Rumford
Traditionally, a Rumford fireplace is a tall, shallow fireplace designed by Sir Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, born in 1753 in Woburn, Massachusetts. Count Rumford was known for his investigations of heat and fireplace design.
Based on their design, Rumford fireplaces reflect more heat, and have streamlined throats to eliminate turbulence and carry away the smoke with little loss of heated room air. Additionally, the Fire Rock pumice-based construction reflects heat much more efficiently than traditional masonry products.

For that classic look, Fire Rock offers a modified version of the Rumford fireplace. The Fire Rock Modified Rumford firebox incorporates three of the fundamental design characteristics associated with the classic Rumford:
However, unlike the traditional Rumford’s shallow depth and widely angled sides, the Fire Rock Modified Rumford is a full 22 1/2" deep to accommodate larger logs and gas log sets. If the customer desires the wide angled sides, the unit can easily be modified at the time of installation by the installer or mason.

Offset Block
If your design requirements do not allow for a vertical chimney installation then use Fire Rock Offset Blocks. Offset Blocks allow you to move the chimney path so that objects (such as another fireplace as depicted on Page 18 in the Installation and Specification Manual and the illustration below) may be placed above the firebox.

Offset blocks may also be used in the following scenarios:
Fire Rock Offset Block is made from Fire Rock material. Each block is 4" x 22" x 24.5" and has an angled flue hole that provides a 30 degree vertical passageway for flue gases. Offset blocks are stacked in series with each one providing a maximum offset 2 ½". Offset direction may be left, right, back, or in a spiral pattern for "twisting" flues.
A non-combustible column under every fourth block must support the Offset Blocks in a series. Please consult the installation manual or a Fire Rock representative for additional information and project-specific questions.

Bricking Flange
Fire Rock Bricking Flange allows a brick or stone chimney to be used for interior fireplace installations. This product is an integral part of your Fire Rock Solid Block Chimney system and provides a ledge around the chimney for stacking brick or stone.
A Bricking Flange is installed directly below the low side of the roofline inside the attic space. This steel reinforced masonry ledge is important since most codes do not allow brick or stone above the roof to be supported by wooden roof trusses. Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding masonry above the roof.

Bricking Flange is ideal in circumstances where covenants require the veneer of the chimney match the veneer of the house; the actual material used on the house can be stacked on the Bricking Flange. For more information, please refer to page 20 in our Installation and Specification Manual or consult your Fire Rock sales representative.
The Bricking Flange measures 32" x 32" x 4" which allows for a 3’x3’ or 3’x4’ chimney profile with modification.
Height Extension Kit
Each Conventional Fire Rock firebox has an opening height of 34 ½ ". For designs that require a taller opening, Fire Rock offers the Height Extension Kit.
A Height Extension Kit is a three piece unit that sets on the baseplace and raises the opening height by 8 5/8". Normal installation procedures apply.
